Gaza and the Zionists
Who are the real terrorists
Cagewriter’s ‘dictum general’ is ‘Ev Oida oil ovdev oida’ which means, in layman’s terms, ‘all I know is that I know nothing’, Socrates said that. I have the slogan tattooed on my arm; it’s there to remind me to keep an open mind, to listen to an opposing argument, to not get bogged down in what I assume to be right. There is nothing worse than an unadulterated, fixed truth, I’m not even sure if one exists to be honest.
In metaphysical terms we need to answer two questions about truth; firstly ‘what is there?’ and secondly, ‘what is it like?’ Well there is a lot of irrelevant nonsense superfluous to requirements and it’s a little fucked up that’s what it’s like. The more we search for it, try to define it, wrestle it under a microscope, the more elusive truth becomes. Language unfortunately is truth’s nemesis, the more you try to pin it down with words the more slippery truth becomes; or maybe we can’t handle the truth, deliberately sidestepping it or dressing it up to be greater or lesser than it really is?
We all have our own personal truths, which are not truths at all but opinions based on knowledge and experience. So how do we form an opinion on something, how do we galvanise our truths? We, all of us, construct an opinion out of experience and the knowledge we have acquired. But, and there is a big but – I’m not talking about booty – at some point we have to admit to ourselves that we only know so much, after which we fall back on gut instinct and popular opinion. We are all perhaps swayed be our peers, influenced by those we would like to emulate or indulge to some degree. Or, which is often the case, if an idea or concept doesn’t fit snugly with our world view we ignore or dismiss it; many of us are guilty of that.
Propaganda is the act of lying by omission, not giving the whole truth, just the bits that support your argument and designed to forge the opinions of others, whole societies sometimes. So when it comes to conflict, each side will chose the appropriate language to impress or manipulate its audience’s judgment.
The Israeli and the Palestinian conflict is as good a place to start as any, the thing is riddled with propaganda, half truths, misunderstandings and blatant lies. So for your benefit I’ve spent many hours, sitting here by candle light, sifting through a mountain of information to arrive at a truth, a truth I’m comfortable with, a truth I’ll believe until proven otherwise. If you wish to dispute anything I say in this article then please do so with my blessing, but do so with logic and not with ill feeling, I don’t react well to harassment.
Most of us Westerners plod along nonplussed, unsure how to react, or in a state of abandonment, not really giving a toss until the state of play picks up a gear, rears its ugly head, then, all of a sudden we are outraged, no matter which side of the fence we fall.
Few of us simple folk have ever been to Israel or visited the Gaza strip, most of the information we receive comes from an almost overwhelming barrage of images, reports and articles on the web, television, radio and good old fashioned newspapers. Some of these images or messages spread like wild fire through social media until before long we are all singing the same tune, depending on whose winning the propaganda war.
Although it has to be said that the media, depending on who you subscribe to, have an agenda. This agenda may not be based on a particular political view point, it could be based on the demographic, and the statistical representation of its viewers or more worryingly on what it’s told its view point should be.
The BBC for example report that Palestinians die and Israelis are killed, Palestinians provoke and Israelis defend, Palestinians make claims and Israelis declare; all reference is framed around Israel’s defence where as Palestinians defence is irrelevant! The BBC is, it has to be said, government lapdogs, nothing more than kiss arse sycophants working for the man.
French Reporting of the conflict is no better, all very one sided, constantly framing Israel as icons of pacifism, supporting Israel’s ‘self defence’ position and showing worried Israeli parents leading their kids to school but not their Palestinian counter parts.
Aljazeera obviously display the burnt, bleeding, twitching corpses of murdered Palestinian children in graphic detail bringing the reality of conflict into your living room.
The Israel and Palestine conflict is very interesting; on the one hand you have the Pro Zionist camp. The argument here is that Israel, through no fault of her own has been subjected to missile attacks from Hamas militants within the Gaza strip and have a right to defend themselves. The land, barren and desolate before, was given to them by the British and before that bequeathed by God. The land was historically theirs; Jerusalem was built by the Jews.
The right to defend is not extended to the Palestinians; the Palestinians have no right to defend themselves against a suppressive superior race. It goes like this ‘Israel has the right to oppress the Palestinians and does so to defend itself, but were the Palestinians to defend themselves against Israel’s oppression, which they do not have a right to do, Israel will then have the right to defend itself against their illegitimate defence of themselves against its legitimate oppression of them, which it carries out anyway in order to defend itself legitimately.’ http://electronicintifada.net/content/israels-right-defend-itself/8004
The historical claim made by the Zionists also fails to support itself under scrutiny. Way before the kingdoms of David and Solomon, which lasted no more than 73 years, the land now known as Israel was Canaanite. Canaanites are the true ancestors of the Palestinians. As for bequeathed by God, well I think we can all agree that this is a mute point, prove it and I’ll believe it.
“But all these [different peoples who had come to Canaan] were additions, sprigs grafted onto the parent tree…And that parent tree was Canaanite…[The Arab invaders of the 7th century A.D.] made Moslem converts of the natives, settled down as residents, and intermarried with them, with the result that all are now so completely Arabized that we cannot tell where the Canaanites leave off and the Arabs begin.” Illene Beatty, “Arab and Jew in the Land of Canaan.”
“The extended kingdoms of David and Solomon, on which the Zionists base their territorial demands, endured for only about 73 years…Then it fell apart…[Even] if we allow independence to the entire life of the ancient Jewish kingdoms, from David’s conquest of Canaan in 1000 B.C. to the wiping out of Judah in 586 B.C., we arrive at [only] a 414 year Jewish rule.” Illene Beatty, “Arab and Jew in the Land of Canaan.”
The Palestinians believe that the British deserted them and then, persuaded by the Americans after the holocaust, encouraged migrant Jews to settle in the land now known as Israel. Palestinians were forced on mass from their homes, many people were displaced and the Israelis were/are relentless in their land grabbing, if anything this conflict is about nothing else other than land.
Plenty of historic bad blood exist between the two sides, the pre war Zionist movement, their desire to displace the Arab population by any means (much documented) the Deir Yassin massacre of 48 and the systematic ethnic cleansing that has followed in its wake! Not to mention the six day war, America’s financial, moral and diplomatic support, terror attacks on civilians and two intifadas.
The Palestinians whether united under the PLO or Hamas have been nothing but a carbuncle on Israel’s arse ever since, when will they bloody understand that they have lost? That they should all just jump into the sea or fuck off?
The world believes that Hamas is a terrorist organisation, hell bent on destroying every Jew, crushing Israel and then implementing an Islamic state. We know that Hamas are terrorists because the US, the United Nations and Israel herself have said so. Whereas state terrorism is legitimate, plain terrorism is not. Hamas have built tunnels, tunnels that pose a real threat to the lives of everyday Israelis, these tunnels must be destroyed at any cost; I think we are all aware of the cost. Plus, least we forget, they are radical Islamist and no one likes a radical Islamist these days. Of Course it’s wildly understood that Israel did like radical Islamists at one time, they even, it has been suggested, funded Hamas in the early days; anything but the fucking PLO and Yasser Arafat. Israel saw Hamas, a sister movement to the Muslim brotherhood, as a positive force in Gaza, perhaps the Arabs would just forget about their troubles and their repression and devout themselves to prayer.
The Truth is that Hamas are the democratically elected government of Gaza and despite a measly estimated budget of 70 million dollars they spend 90 percent of it on education, orphanages, mosques, health clinics, soup kitchens, sports leagues, and more, leaving very little room for defence spending. Israel receive 3.1 billion dollars in aid from the US most of which is used for defence!
Hamas, I’m sure would prefer the label ‘freedom fighter’ so what’s the difference? Is it that a terrorist acts with envy, they want what you have, it doesn’t belong to them, never did? Whereas a freedom fighter is someone who has been suppressed, had their liberty, land and identity stolen from them and want it back? Hmm seems that ‘truth’ is being misrepresented by semantics yet again! Netanyahu recently compared Hamas to the Islamic organisation IS, I find this comparison blatantly erroneous and lacking in any factual evidence. Netanyahu needs to look in a mirror! The IS are a well funded, well organised army that are waging a religious war on the entire Eastern Mediterranean, displacing innocent people, killing anyone that gets in their way and claiming land that clearly does not belong to them! Hmm sounds familiar?
That said evidence is stacking up against Hamas for firing rockets into Israel from populated areas and using human shields by hiding munitions in schools or public buildings. If you think this is bad, what if Hamas are deliberately sacrificing people, young children, to win a propaganda war?
What if Israel knows that they have not only the world’s third biggest army, but thanks to the US a defence system that can deflect 85 percent of all missiles launched from Gaza? What if Israel were not, as they declared ‘defending’ themselves but actually deliberately poking Hamas with a stick, goading them into a reaction so that they could justify mass slaughter to the watching world?
How did the last episode of conflict begin?
Three Israeli teenagers were kidnapped from settlements in the West bank on the 12th of June. Israel was very quick to blame Hamas despite no evidence to suggest that they were directly connected. The fact that they were abducted and later found dead is very sad indeed, the fact that the whole world was misinformed by Netanyahu as to the identity of the perpetrators is equally worrying.
A few weeks before the abduction episode two Palestinian youths were shot and killed by The Israeli defence force. The boys posed no threat whatsoever, they hadn’t so much as thrown a stone at the IDF, in fact they were trying to get away when they were killed. We know this because there is irrefutably video footage to prove it happened that way, unlike the kidnapping of the poor Israeli boys. The question is would the Palestinian government be justified in ransacking Israeli homes, torturing, killing and arresting innocent people? How would the world view such an invasive and aggressive act?
Despite this illegal killing Hamas demonstrated restraint. When, Netanyahu ordered a collective punishment of Palestinians living in the west bank- codename – brother’s keeper – still there was restraint. Despite the fact that Israeli soldiers destroyed homes, arresting and detaining up to 800 people without charge, stole personal belongings including over 3 million dollars in currency during this illegal and intimidating rampage Hamas demonstrated great control.
The objective of this Israeli led raid was to, ‘bring our boys home’, what no one knew, other than the government, was that the boys were dead, not even the relatives of the victims were told of their fate, the media were gagged so that Netanyahu could, in his eyes, carry out a legitimate search and rescue mission. The Fourth Geneva Convention article 33 states, “No protected person may be punished for an offence he or she has not personally committed.” Article 33 also states that, “Pillage is prohibited. Reprisals against protected persons and their property are prohibited”. Like The right wing hawks give a shit!
Before a single rocket was fired from Gaza the IDF rounded up Palestinian intellectuals, Clerics and politicians, re-arrested ex-prisoners, raided universities, clinics, businesses and homes in the west bank and Gaza. Then moved their iron dome defence batteries into strategic positions while calling up reservist all in preparation for a provoked response from Hamas…none came; so on June 29th Israel launched an air strike on Gaza killing one soldier and wounding two others. Eventually Hamas had been poked with a stick once too often. Now you tell me, given this information, who started this? Who is responsible for the massive loss of life suffered, who can we blame for the desperate situation the Palestinian people find themselves in? Who’s to blame for the fear and paranoia in the hearts of everyday Israelis, is it Hamas or is it the Zionist right wing government of Israel and its crafty propaganda machine.
Israel’s lawmaker and Netanyahu’s chum Ayelet Shaked called for the genocide of the Palestine people, ‘Including its elderly and its women, its cities and its villages, its property and its infrastructure,’ as well as calling for the slaughter of Palestinian mothers who give birth to ‘little snakes.’ This (and I’ll say it if no one else will) Nazi attitude has permeated the already seriously indoctrinated Israeli population, bred on hatred and lies they sit on sofas and lounge chairs, beer in hand, enjoying the destruction and mass slaughter of their neighbours. What the fuck! After the kidnapping of the three Israeli teens and before a single rocket was fired from Gaza, the Israeli government provoked racial hatred, mobs shouting ‘death to Arabs’ on the streets, creating a heady frenzy of loathing. Seriously can Israel’s attack on Gaza be classified as an act of self defense?
Hamas are not Israel’s preferred opponent; they would obviously prefer an opponent happy to plod along diplomatically, a lineal process with no end or benefit to the people of Palestine.
The history of the conflict is riddled with violence and bloodshed carried out by both sides; both the Israelis and the Palestinians have a very keen sense of justification and retribution. But where does that leave us now, in the present moment?
We have an occupying force, Israel that is desperately trying to justify their use of heavy handed tactics. We also have an occupied people sick and tired of the status quo. Sick and tired of living in what can only be described as nothing more than a glorified concentration camp. An Economic blockade is ongoing, the borders have been closed by Egypt and Israel making it impossible to leave, Israel controls the boarders, airspace and waters around Gaza. “Gaza is unique in the annals of modern warfare in being a conflict zone with a fence around it, so civilians have no place to flee”, said Chris Gunness, spokesman for the U.N relief agency for Palestinian refugees; the people of Gaza are trapped.
Time and time again all Hamas is asking for is that Israel respect the last ceasefire treaty, to relieve restrictions on movement, to facilitate the movement and transfer of people and goods on border crossings, stop meddling in Palestinian affairs and most importantly stop the violence against an already battered people.
Despite the Israeli governments attempt to cover up its motives, aided by the US and UK, the people, us simple folk, have sought out the truth. People have side stepped the propaganda and waded though the one sided rhetoric and made a stand. We have said enough is enough, stop lying and do something.
The answer to peace lies with the people; we have the power to overthrow the Zionists who slaughter thousands in the name of ‘self defence’ and the west must apply pressure on Netanyahu and his pals, and if that means an embargo on weapons then so be it.
